I just got back into town today after going home to the Chicago area to celebrate a relative’s 75th birthday. The party was fun, but truthfully, I just wanted to get out of town again for a few days. Since the divorce, I’ve been thinking more and more about what’s keeping me in Kentucky, and on this trip I finally came to the decision that there’ s nothin g that’s keeping me here. Nothing, that is, except the business.

Since coming to that decision, I keep thinking about how I can get out of the business, as in, “Screw the partners, how ca nI get out of here.” In this state of mind, I’ve thought about selling all my interest in the business, either to my partners or perhaps to an outside entity, maybe someone like Steve, Jerry, or even our closest competitors in town. On the trip back to Kentucky today I decided that one way or another I’m going to make this happen. I’ll do whatever I have to do sell the entire company, or just sell my shares in the company so I can get out of here.

I hate to say it, but I’m currently thinking about taking this to an extreme, about putting my client’s projects on the back burner, and making the process of selling my interest in the company my number on priority. Until now I’ve really on Marty to do all that work, but now I just want to take things into my own hands.

I’ll list all my reasons for making this decision at some point, but I’ve written about the major ones already, including feeling burned out, the inability to grow the company, constantly having to deal with Jack and George, and knowing that this is not my hometown, and not the town I want to retire in.
